THE BEAT GOES ON

Heartbeat is the sound of your heart pump that gives you life........ The precious gift of one's existence. Listen to it daily by putting your ear to the pillow at night as you rest in bed. Lub dub.... lub dub.... lub dub.... It beats on the average 60 times a minute, 3600 times an hour, 86,400 per day, 31,536,000 per year and 2,365,200,000 in a lifetime....... What a pump!.......

The most powerful and efficient pump known to mankind. Questions that arise:   Do you appreciate your pump?

What beat are you on? ? Multiply your age x 31,536,000

2,365,200,000 Do you wish to live longer? The Beat Goes On

Answer the following three questions:

1. Do you worsen the beat by putting tar in your breathing engine (cigarette smoking)?

2. Do you also worsen it by greasing and slugging up your oxygen delivery system

(excess cholesterol consumption)?

3. Do you respond quickly when there is a knock in your engine (or do you ignore early chest discomfort)? To appreciate the heart you need to understand its tremendous reserve capacity....... Your quality of life depends on this exercise tolerance.
Your pump delivery can increase 8 fold when you need to do so (such as running up a mountain). Your needs each day are met quickly and efficiently by an automatic pumping system (Frank Starling Curve).

You lose muscle with heart damage from a heart attack. With every heart attack you become more disabled. Your quality of life thus suffers due to this damaged pump.

What can you do about this?

Learn to appreciate this precious gift of life and start taking care of it.

Protect it from the ravages of cigarette smoking, cholesterol deposition and high blood pressure, but most of all Take Action Early when you know it may be in trouble. Know the early warning symptoms (EWS). Check out section 'Are you in the Midst of a Heart Attack'?
