An open letter from the President/CEO
Dear
Friend,
If you are reading this booklet, you are probably at least somewhat concerned about the dangers of heart attack. For as long as I can remember, heart attack has been the number one killer of African Americans. That’s why the NAACP has been leading the fight against this disease.
There is some good news in this fight against heart attack: a new weapon - information. What’s more, it is information that African Americans and others can use to help ourselves, our families and our communities. We are now aware that more than half of the people who suffer from major heart attacks have some mild warning symptoms in advance, perhaps lasting from a few hours to a few days. The preceding information has provided you with valuable information...we can all learn to recognize these symptoms and seek medical help right away.
Just think, if half of the people who would die of a heart attack in an average year would recognize their early symptoms and receive treatment, we could save thousands of lives every year. I want to enlist you in the war against heart attack. Armed with the information in this booklet, you could save your own life and the life of someone you love.
Can I count on you?
Kweisi Mfume
